It can be used with 2/3 series Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries in a wide range of laptops, tablets, power banks, and other portable devices. Its switch-mode operation and low-resistance power path maximize charging, discharging, and buck efficiency. It also reduces battery charging time and extends battery life during a discharging phase. This device supports a wide range of input sources, including standard USB host port, USB charging port, and high-power AC-DC adapter. It supports an input operating voltage from 3.9V to 14V. It can automatically adjust to the maximum power output of the input source via the input dynamic power management control (VUSBDPM).
HL7061 is a fully integrated boost mode charger for 2-3 series lithium-ion batteries, incorporating power MOSFETs, I2C interface, and buck discharge functionality. It can be used with 2-3 series lithium-ion and lithium polymer battery packs, widely applied in portable devices such as laptops, tablets, and power banks. Its switch-mode operation and low-resistance power path maximize charging, discharging, and buck efficiency, reducing battery charging time and extending battery life during the discharge phase. HL7061 supports multiple input sources, including standard USB host interfaces, USB charging interfaces, and high-power AC-DC adapters. The supported input operating voltage ranges from 3.9V to 14V, and it can automatically adjust to the maximum output power of the input source through input dynamic power management control (VUSBDPM). Whether or not there is an I2C host, HL7061 can autonomously manage the complete charging cycle of lithium-ion batteries. It detects the battery voltage and automatically charges the battery in four stages: trickle charge, preconditioning, constant current, and constant voltage. When the battery is fully charged, it automatically terminates charging and restarts the charging cycle when the battery voltage falls below the charging threshold. For short-circuit protected batteries, it can provide a floating voltage to the battery terminals before charging begins, thereby reactivating the battery. Its I2C interface offers maximum programmability for charging parameters and system-level communication. When the I2C host is absent, a built-in watchdog timer stops charging after the timer expires to ensure safe operation of the battery. The integrated buck regulator provides a programmable battery output of 3.2V to 8V (for 2S batteries) or 3.2V to 12V (for 3S batteries) at the VUSB port, and supports currents up to 3.4A with internal MOSFETs or up to 5.4A with optional external MOSFETs. The output voltage can be adjusted in minimum steps of 10mV to accommodate applications such as USB3.1 Type-C direct charging. The bidirectional power port VUSB of HL7061 can connect to multiple USB interfaces. In this case, HL7061 automatically detects the presence of external power on these ports and activates the corresponding external MOSFETs for proper charging or discharging functionality. This port can also connect to multiple output USB ports, such as USB_A and USB_B. In this case, HL7061 automatically detects the load connected to either port and automatically performs buck operations. HL7061 integrates comprehensive protection mechanisms to ensure the safe operation of the battery, including monitoring battery temperature through negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors, charging safety timers, and over-voltage and under-voltage detection. It also provides output over-current protection and controls its junction temperature (TJ_REG) to not exceed 120°C by adjusting the charging current.
