HL7002A is a simple, fully integrated, all-in-one switch mode lithium-ion battery charging chip that can charge a single cell battery with a maximum current of 2.5A. This chip can charge the battery without power path management, providing a low-cost, compact charging solution for portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, and power banks. To further reduce costs and size while improving charging efficiency, the charger eliminates the charging current detection resistor and employs a unique detection method to achieve precise charging current control. It optimizes the internal power switch to achieve high efficiency under different input voltages, shortening charging time. HL7002A supports multiple input sources, including standard USB host ports, USB charging ports, and AC-DC adapters. It supports an input operating voltage range from 4.0V to 9.5V, allowing it to power the system even without a battery. It supports BC1.2 detection, and additionally, it is equipped with BC1.2 detection functionality to ensure appropriate input current limiting, thereby optimizing the utilization of the input power source. When connected to an I2C host, HL7002A can independently handle lithium battery charging. It monitors the battery voltage while executing the charging process in three stages: pre-charge, constant current, and constant voltage, and stops charging once fully charged. If the battery voltage is detected to be too low, it restarts the charging process. The chip can communicate via the I2C interface to set the charging current, and in the absence of I2C host communication, a built-in timer ensures that the chip safely stops charging within a specified time. HL7002A supports OTG functionality, allowing the output voltage to be configured on VBUS, with a maximum output current of 1.2A. HL7002A integrates comprehensive protection mechanisms for input over-voltage, under-voltage, VBAT over-voltage, inductor over-current, thermal regulation, and thermal shutdown, ensuring safe operation. HL7002A comes in a compact 1.6mm x 2.0mm WLCSP-20 package.
